Anyone using Logitech Harmony to control Kodi interface? Download kodi 17.3 on firestick. I just started doing this. Kodi 17 fire tv downloader. I didn't have an ir receiver for my htpc, so I grabbed a flirc. Harmony has a profile for the flirc, so it has a lot programmed in already. You will need to program a new button to turn kodi on if you need that. I have a Harmony 650 and have XBMC/Kodi on. Anyone using Logitech Harmony to control Kodi interface? I just started doing this. Hey Guys, I have the Harmony Ultimate Remote. I am in the process of building a HTPC and i will be running XBMC (Kodi). Can my Harmony control XBMC?
If so, how would i go about setting that all up? I want it to control all the functions of XBMC. If it can also control the computer, that would be a plus, but is not really needed as long as XBMC can be controlled.
Thanks for any info.

Flirc is the easiest way, and controlling other parts of windows is as easy as learning their keyboard shortcuts
Any ehome receiver may also work, but the customization is a lof more involved

There is only one thing they sell with the name Flirc. It's a USB IR receiver. The other stuff in the store is just raspberry pi and accessories for the raspberry pi. They used to sell only the flirc, so I had to go check when you said which one because I didn't know they added all the new RPi stuffI quickly looked it up. So which one would i need to get? It's more powerful than most receivers you've tried (in my experience). It can catch IR from just about any direction in a normal room (even off the ceiling/walls). Also easily programmable in win/mac/nix with a really easy interface. After it's programmed then it's a fairly plug n play receiver. Since you program your own remote IR commands to USB keyboard shortcuts . . . you can use any IR remote you want (including the harmony)

Their prices fluctuate a lot. I've seen them down to around $12, I paid $16 for mine in December. Wonderful little receivers, it is the only way to go if you already have a remote you want to use, IMHO.

Sorry, 1 more question.
If I have a keyboard and mouse which also plugs in as a usb device and if i get Flirc, will they both work ok or would i need to disconnect one or the other?
Essentially, it would be my HTPC but also my computer. When i am watching a movie, i want to be able to use the remote for XBMC, and when i am doing computer stuff, obviously i would use the keyboard and mouse.
Thanks again.

I have used a keyboard, mouse, and flirc on the same OE box several times. Shouldn't be any issue working together. To be on the sure side you could plug two keyboards in and see if they can work at the same time
AFAIK, windows doesn't limit input devices, but the Flirc does register as a usb-input device (keyboard). It can wake your HTPC as well by programming a wake button, but a prerequisite for that working is to get your computer to a state where it can sleep (s3) and wake by USB keyboard (usually disabling wake by NIC will keep it from waking up right after going to sleep)

I have multiple xbmc boxes and use different Harmony remotes for each.
Ive never had a problem controlling any aspect of XBMC by choosing 'microsoft media center extender' in the Harmony software.
Never have felt the need to use Flirc.

So what do you use to send the signal from the remote to your computer?

Flirc isn't much more expensive
http://www.amazon.com/FLIRC-Dongle-M../dp/B00BB0ETW8
It's also a lot easier to program the flirc for things like alt+f4, alt+tab, win+(1-9), win+e, etc

So is the Flirc considered a ehome infrared transceiver?
From what i can tell, if i get one of the transcievers mentioned in the above Link, i can use my Harmony software to configure everything. If i use Flirc, i use their software to configure it all.

No, it isn't. It's a very generic control device that can receive any IR signal and execute any command. It's far more than an eHome receiver (not transceiver). But, yes, you can use any remote and whatever software you use to program that remote to build a device or use an existing device. Then use Flirc software to associate various IR signals from your remote with specific commands. So is the Flirc considered a ehome infrared transceiver?

If you buy an eHome (MCE/RC6) dongle, then all is plug and play. You can do all the basic media control commands plus several keyboard commands. Flirc doesn't work this way.
With Flirc, you have to do some programming to make it do everything you want. Most will work by default, but it's highly configurable and works with any IR signals, not just MCE. For example, you could make the CH+ from your TV remote (or TV device on Harmony) do CH+ (or anything you can imagine) in Kodi. You aren't tied to any devices, IR protocols or commands.
I have an Flirc dongle, but I never use it. I don't need any extra capabilities and don't want to bother programming anything. My eHome-ish receiver does everything I need (I use a Diamond media one I got from ebay for $5 which technically isn't MCE either).

I have the Harmony Ultimate and I use it to control Kodi. It can be set to control a Windows PC via bluetooth and so Kodi can be controlled with it out of the box as long as your PC has bluetooth (not included with the remote).
Customization is limited and commands can't be added. Media related commands are based on MCE Remote if I'm not mistaken but there are also additional commands like the Windows-key, 1st - 3rd pinned to taskbar, Charms and F-keys preprogrammed. There are also Media Center, Video, Music, Movie, Radio, Live TV buttons and some of these do work with Kodi. Also as said before they can't be reprogrammed so Kodi can't be opened with the Media Center button for example.
Arrow keys and all playback controls work and that is pretty much all that's needed for full operation. There are also direct commands for changing subtitles and audio track but these don't work either although Kodi displays a notification related to DVD subs/audio when pressed so they might work for disk playback? Some commads could potentially be remapped to different functions with additional software.
I haven't done a lot of research on the subject (yet) and this is based on my personal experience with the official Logitech setup and software with a Windows 10 PC and Kodi version 15 RC2 with a modded version (for v15) of AeonMQ 5 skin. Bluetooth is integrated on the motherboard (ASUS X99-Deluxe, bt version 4).
Usig an IR reciever is useful as it gives more customization options.

1. Are you sure that your CD player has power commands? I only ask because many older CDP's do not, you have to power them on manually and then the remote controls all functions. 2. Are there commands on the Harmony for CHAPTER NEXT/PREV or NEXT/PREV TRACK? those are probably the correct ones for track skip.

Yes, it has power commands b/c it has a remote with it that turns it on and off. And the 'on screen menu' has a command for it. By that 'on screen menu' I mean the screen/display at the top of the remote. See the picture attached. In there you can dig into ever command that the Harmony remote is programmed with for your devices. ALL of the things I'm having issues with as activity commands are listed, and do work, in the on screen menu.2. Yes, there are those commands on the remote - in the on screen menu. Again, all functions work that way, but skip track should work with the buttons on the remote. Why would FF and RW work but not the skip track. I wish you could actually see, on the computer app, the actual commands that the Harmony has programmed in, and where they are working. What would be awesome is a Simulink-type interface where all of the functions are listed, and you could simply drag them to the button you wanted to associate with them. At that point, a sync would make it happen. That would allow you manually fix any errors the remote is having. Without that manual capability, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to fix these problems.

But, IIRC .. you can re-program any button. They can also be trained directly from existing remote.
This would be because Harmony has a few errors in that profile. I suppose the other way would be to let them know and see if they can fix it on their end. You would then delete and re-add the device.

I don't know how to individual program a button - I'll look in my pdf manual and see if that is mentioned. I did to the training from the remote - that was the first fix I attempted. It said it trained it, but it hasn't fixed the power issue. I didn't try to train the skip/back buttons though. But, IIRC .. you can re-program any button. How exactly do I let Logitech know so they can fix it??

For the 650 (don't have it yet, just askin'); when you replace the batteries, will there be a loss of any programmed functions? Or is the programming of activities and such independent of battery power?
I see a post or two in this thread mentioning dropping the remote and having it 'reset' - does this mean it looses some (or all) settings, or is it that once you program it, it's good to go whether or not it has batteries in it?

Is the new MyHarmony software as capable as the older 7.7 version software? Example; say I'd like to be able to set the backlight to shut off after 1 second - can I do this with the new software, or can even the old software do this? (I'm sure there are plenty of tweaks I'll come up with once I start playing with it.. just would like to know if the new software will allow the same programming flexibility as what it seems the old software does.)
<EDIT> After reading this thread front to back, it would appear the old software would not work with a new 650 as I do not have an old account (first-time Harmony owner - assuming I get one for xmas, that is..) MyHarmony has seen some upgrades making it all I should need to get the 650 to do what I need it to do. Works for me!

All the harmony remotes keep programming intact across battery changes. I am not sure how this is done (capacitor?) or how long you could leave the batteries out before risking loss. But normal battery changes are no problem. I see a post or two in this thread mentioning dropping the remote and having it 'reset' - does this mean it looses some (or all) settings, or is it that once you program it, it's good to go whether or not it has batteries in it?
When I drop my 650 it sometimes resets to 'first use' state -- it keeps all programming but wants you to go through the little built-in 'welcome to your remote' tutorial, which is a big pain and either winds up with everything out of synch. I thought it was just mine (I bought a refurb), so it's interesting to hear that it has been mentioned here. Is there any solution for the problem? AVS Forum Special Member

I'm sure it is just non-volatile flash storage. Originally Posted by JGM

My guess is when it's dropped, the batteries disconnect for just a split second. Perhaps make sure that the springs are tight. The other thing it could be is a bad solder joint. I'm not sure what else physical trauma could affect that would cause it to behave as if you'd just replaced the batteries. Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. I just bought a Harmony 650 this morning at Sams. Running through the setup, it appears that the Oppo BDP-103 is not supported? Every time I try to add the device it tells me I am adding a 'Home Theater System' and indicates that it may or may not work because there are multiple ir codes. I tried BDP-93 with the same result. Is this BluRay player not supported?
To anyone interested in a Google Chromebox or Chromebook.
Be aware that these boxes run a variant of Linux and DO NOT support HDCP!!!
This means no support for HD on most streaming services. I wish I would have known this beforehand..

Is this BluRay player not supported?
So you take a few minutes to add it so we all can use it. Isn't that how it works?
Not sure who (Harmony or a user) added my system's Panasonic BD-60 BluRay player, but they left out a few buttons. Buttons like VieraCast (apps) and 4 color buttons (RGBY). I think because there is no equivalent 'hard buttons' on remote. So, I added them (by training from original remote) to the Device and assigned them to small-LCD-display.
I'm still using Windows-based software.

It is supported. It's a home theater device because, unlike most BD players, it has inputs and multiple addresses. Just let the software do its job. If it bothers you, keep picking different Oppos until you get one you like. All the codes are the same.

Ok, thanks for the helpful information. Not being familiar with any other equipment that Oppo may or may not produce, I was thinking that the app was mis-identifying the Blu-Ray player. And the image the app displayed looked to be some HTIB or something.. To anyone interested in a Google Chromebox or Chromebook.
Be aware that these boxes run a variant of Linux and DO NOT support HDCP!!!
This means no support for HD on most streaming services. I wish I would have known this beforehand..

Hi, I searched through this thread and could not find my exact issue. I recently purchased a Samsung Ju7100 which replaced my 2 yr old Samsung TV (non smart TV). Everything is ran into my Pioneer VSX-1021K receiver and to the TV's ARC input (HDMI 4). Everything works find when I click 'Watch TV', but 30 seconds later, my receiver changes to TV input which is used for ARC. I do have HDMI Anyconnect turned on because that is only way for me to get sound from the TV to my receiver when using the TV's Smart function. I did change the start up order so that the TV comes on last, but it made no difference. Also, the activities are setup to not change the HDMI input on the TV.
Any help will be appreciated.

Obviously, I keep HDMI-CEC off on my two Harmony controlled systems.
When I helped my brother setup his Onkyo-Panasonic Plasma (non-Harmony controlled) I was surprised to discover we had to turn on HDMI-CEC to get ARC to work. Got me thinking about the ramifications is he ever wanted a Harmony Remote as well.
Seems like Harmony would need a option switch for that on each device. Well, seems it's not there:
https://support.myharmony.com/en-us/..g-hdmi-and-cec
But remember that ARC is just a trick to eliminate an extra cable (usually SPDIF optical or coax) from TV back to the Amp (for TV generated content .. either ATSC-Tuner or Smart-Apps). So I think you just set-it-up like before ARC existed ..
- Turn off HDMI-CEC on all components
- Install SPDIF cable
- Program Amp to use SPDIF input
- Setup TV-Smart-Apps as a new Activity

Thanks. I was afraid of that. I'm going to mess with the order of things and the delays and see if something changes. I'll report back. Sounds good. Addtionally ..
If you have no cable or satellite STB (meaning you only use TV tuners to generate TV content) I don't think you will even need to setup another Activity. You could just setup Amp to use SPDIF for audio always (and just use Watch-TV Activity).

About 15 years ago I bought a pretty expensive universal remote (don't even remember the brand). It was such a royal pain to program and use that I gave up after a few weeks and went back to multiple remotes. Since then I've continued to assume that universal remotes were not even worth considering.
Over the years my system expanded to include six remotes and I just recently started wondering how much universal remote technology had improved. After browsing this forum I was impressed with what Logitech has done with the Harmony series and figured the 650 was the sweet spot in terms of capabilities for the price, so I bought one last week.
After breezing through the setup process and having used it for a week now, I am mighty impressed. The 650 is simple to use and does everything I need on a daily basis. I do keep the other remotes nearby for the rare occasions when I want to dig deep into a device's menu. But having just one remote for 99% of my needs sure makes life easier.
If anyone is holding back on buying a universal remote because they had a bad experience like mine many years ago, I highly recommend giving the 650 a chance to demonstrate how far universal remote technology has improved in recent years.

Yes. That's how I have mine setup.
I think it's just a matter of having Marantz Amp a member of all Activities. The Activity Wizard should also lead you down that path.

I could have sworn I just answered this exact same question in another thread. No, you can't have volume punch through in device mode on Harmony. Activities are required for that.

Maybe not, but I always end any Device Mode access with one last button .. my current Activity (what way the LCD and LCD buttons are correct for my current Activity).

Point is, devices on Harmony don't have punch thru. Workaround is to learn AVR vol to vol keys on every device, as I said in KBMAN's other thread. Switching back to the activity is using the activity's VPT, not the device's. As soon as you return to your activity, you're no longer in device mode.
Most other universal remotes DO have global VPT. If that's what KB requires, he should get one of those remotes. Otherwise, he needs to learn how to program and use activities.

I would guess so.
In both of my Harmony Remotes .. I'm always (99% of the time) in an Activity. The main buttons (Watch TV, Play a Disc, Listen to Music, etc.) .. all Activities. Using normal setup procedures, you would have to go out of your way to NOT use Activities. Macros are another nice feature.
If you are in an Activity and find yourself going to Device Mode to press a button .. better to just add it to Activity's LCD screen. It can be a button from any Device.
Also, any button that is missing from a Device, can be custom trained (from original remote) and added to Device in Harmony. If there is no hard-button for it on Harmony, it can be added to Device's LCD screen.

Hi guys. I can't find a place where my question's already been addressed, so I'm going to throw it out there. If I missed the answer, please feel free to direct me to the correct page for it.
I've had a Sony HT-CT150 sound bar for a long time. Works perfectly. I'd had one LGTV, and we recently upgraded to a new 65uf8500. I'm loving the tv, but the interface has one quirk that's making me crazy, and I'm hoping I can get my Harmony 650 to fix it.
Audio output switching isn't available on any of the main buttons on the tv remote. To get to those settings, I need to hit a button on the tv remote, open a menu of sorts, THEN open the Advanced option from there, switch to the audio setting (lots of other setting options in that menu, like picture), THEN get to the Audio output setting and choose what I want. So, the setting is, like, 3 levels in.
I can't find a way to find that command, even using macros, since it's so deeply in there - but I'd really like to switch from my soundbar to my headphones (they're RF from a 3.5' input - no bluetooth available - don't get me started!.. UGH!), then back to the soundbar when I'm done.
Setting an action won't do it, because even to set back to listening through the soundbar, although it sets the soundbar correctly - the tv doesn't know to talk to it unless I reset it's internal output setting. None of this seems automatic - it's a function of the damned thing wanting me to physically plug in the 3.5' cable in the back of the tv EACH time I use it, and I simply won't do that.
So.. anyone know how I can get the Harmony to know what functions may be deep inside the tv, when it's not a main button on the remote? Thanks!

Create 2 macros .. one to turn it on, another to turn it off. For instance .. I have 3 macros that load 1 of 3 different saved (brightness and color) Profiles on my projector (I call them Day, Dusk, and Night) .. so I know you can deep dive into menus.

You can add (TV menu) cursor buttons or whatever to each macro.
